Running after a free good meal By: Juha is a legendary person well known in the Arab literature. Once, and because of his famous weird clothing, a punch of kids were following and teasing him. To get rid of them, he told them that there was a wedding party at the eastern part of the town and food was being served. The kids ran to the site and left him alone. After few minutes he said to him self " may be I was right and there is a wedding there" he himself rushed to the site dreaming of a free meal. This story is typical to the behavior of many Israelis nowadays. Encouraged by their might and the blind support of the united states they invented many myths and are currently running for a good meal. This is the story of Israeli generosity. The first myth was " There is nothing called Palestinians-Golda Meir" so this land belongs to no one but Jews. Why then to give part of it to those foreigners? The only reason is Israeli generosity. The dispute is how generous can they be. The second Myth was" Jerusalem, united, is the eternal capitol of the state of Israel-every single Israeli Prim-Minster" why then share it with the ones who do not exist? The only reason is Israeli longing for peace and to stop the unnecessary bloodshed. The third myth was " Israelis has the right to settle in Judea and Samaria and Gaza- All Israeli Officials" why then to dismantle settlements? The only reason is Israel will sacrifice its right for the sake of peace. The fourth myth was " The Arabs fled their villages voluntarily and Israel has no moral or historical obligations for the Palestinian refugees problem-The last one is Barak" why then shares in solving this problem? There is no reason in the world to do so. So why did all the world and through the United Nations recognized Palestinians as a nation and Judea and Samaria and Gaza as occupied territories? And why did the entire world, including the United States, recognized the right of Palestinian refugees to return " resolution 194"? The only reason is: the UN is a racist and anti Semitic organization. Therefore, while everyone else recognizes that there is no wedding in the town, Israel is still running for the good meal. What a state of confusion. Suddenly Israel discovered the existence of Palestinians. Juha thought if he continues to deny their existence they will disappear. Yet, even when they exist, they are not part of the history of this place. History started 3000 years ago continued for one hundred years only and suddenly stopped, nothing happened, until 52 years ago history started running again. Unfortunately, many Israelis take the collection of those myths as the ideological bases of their existence. Therefore, the dispute inside Israel, and unfortunately in other parts of the world, where we are seeing Juha again, is about how generous Israel can be. So, when people look at the proposal of withdrawal from about 90% of the occupied west bank and Gaza, they say woo how generous! Reality is : how mean! they want to keep 10% of the Palestinian areas. So who is generous here? Who is sacrificing for the sake of achieving peace? Do Israelis remember that the bases of their peace treaties with both Egypt and Jordan were "until the withdrawal from the last squared inch of land"? If Israel is to compensate Palestinians for their suffering and loses as a consequence of taking their land and resources, turning 70% of them to refugees, and placing the rest under military occupation, then Israelis will be in dept for generations to come. The equation is simple: Palestinians are satisfied with establishing a state on the areas occupied in 1967 war ( 20% of the land ) and this is a major sacrifice from their side. And are ready for a historical compromise on the rights of Palestinian refugees that will guarantee their national, civil, and human rights and does not contradict the basic principle of establishing a Palestinian state beside Israel as the state for the Jewish people. The first necessary step towards it is for Israel to admit its moral and historical responsibility towards the refugee problem. For peace to come, Juha must stop running after a good and easy meal. | ||||||||||||||||
