About the Dialogue Group
The Rapprochement Centre is a human relations organization that primarily
focuses on improving ties not only between Palestinians and Israelis, but also
between other peoples of the world. Located
in the community of Beit Sahour, the Rapprochement Centre runs a dialogue series
each year between the aforementioned groups.
The main objectives for such a series is to stimulate communications
between Palestinians and Israelis, to help both groups understand each other's
needs and concerns for peace and justice, and to help both overcome the
stereotypes, prejudices, and fears so often portrayed in the media.
The 12 sessions (2 hour monthly sessions) which make up the series, the
lectures and panel discussions that accompany the sessions, and the work needed
in preparing them, all are conducted at the Rapprochement Centre.
For the past ten
years, the attendance to the sessions by the three targeted age groups--high
school age, university age, and adults-- has increased considerably not only in
the number of Palestinians and Israelis, but also in the amount of international
visitors. As a result, the dialogue
series has become a fundamental part of the Rapprochement Centre's activities.
Based on the past success of the sessions, continuing the series in the
future will facilitate the recruitment of more Palestinians and Israelis into
the program, and will also promote to a higher level the idea of a peaceful
coexistence free of hatred and fear, based on equality and mutual recognition of
each other's existence and needs.
