And Beit Jala Tonight
I could hear the
sound of the helicopters over Beit Jala while sitting my office typing the
report about Bethlehem the other night. I wrote in my report "Dear friends, now
in this moment while writing this to you, I hear the sound of the Helicopters
over Bethlehem. I hope this night will pass safe without any bombardment
or casualties." Only one of my request was answered
which is that this night will pass without casualties.
And now, I also hear the helicopters again over Bethlehem, and again I say
that I hope nothing will happen. More than six houses were shelled last
night in Beit Jala. I managed to visit the house of the Arja Family in
Beit Jala this morning. Khristo Arja, has just recently finished building
his house. The Israeli bombs did not give him and his family enough time
to enjoy it. The house has got three shells that came inside the house
from the Colony Gilo which most of it is built over the land of Beit Jala.
"We put sand
bags to protect us from the bullets but they were weaker than the Israeli -
American 500 mm
bullets" Says Qustandi that brother of Khristo. I saw that with
my own eyes. The bullet came through the sand bags that were supposed to
protect them. They were lucky enough not to trust the sand bags so they
left the room when the shooting started. The kids were very terrified, the
women were crying "Does the soldier who fire the shell
see the result?" asked one of the women while they cleaning
the shattered glass on the floor.
