Acknowledgement to Barak
Some times reporters come with statements that appear to make sense, but if examined well it makes no sense at all. Firstly, no other prime minister in Israel went into discussing final status issues but Barak, so who are the others that every one is measuring Barak against. People tend to forget that since Madrid when Shamir accepted 242 and 338 UN resolutions as the legal basis to the peace process, all parties were working out interim arrangements only. Officially, the issue of Jerusalem, refugees, settlements, and borders were never part of those discussions. Yes, Barak went further from any other Israeli prime minister in voting against Oslo accords, in refusing to fulfill agreements that he signed, in how far he pushed his settlement campaign back and in his brutality and the number of victims he ordered his soldiers to kill that even was not matched by Netanyahu’s policies in the time of the tunnel incidents. Warn you all that we are back to the times when talking about peace is a cover for aggression, hostility, and brutality. Times where people have to look carefully at what the hands are doing even if the eyes are full of tears and the lips are talking peace. Ghassan H. Andoni | ||||||||||||||||
